Canada Games and HP Training Opportunity

November 19, 2021

Swim PEI has confirmed training opportunities for Canada Games and High Performance swimmers the weekend of November 26th-28th. Pierre Lafontaine will be on the Island during that time. The outline of training times is listed below. If there is anyone interested is registering for the Canada Games program, who did not this past September, the registration form is linked below as well. Please fill it out and send it back prior to attending next weekend. There is also a $60 fee for those who are wanting to be considered for selection to Canada Games which can be paid to Swim PEI. Payment details are outlined on the registration form.
All swim times will take place at the Bell Aliant Centre in Charlottetown.
Friday, November 26th 
Lanes 1-4: 5:00pm-7:00pm
Saturday, November 27th 
Lanes 4-7: 8:00am-11:00am
Lanes 1-4: 3:00pm-5:00pm
Sunday, November 28th 
Lane 5-8: 9:30am-11:30am

Call for Applications for Assitant Canada Games Coaches

Swim PEI is now accepting applications for the Assistant Coach positions for the 2021 Canada Games. Depending on team size there will be 3-4 Assistant Coaches to accompany the team to Niagara, Ontario in August 2021.Applications are being accepted until Monday, August 3, 2020. If interested please submit a resume, with cover letter, and proof of certification to Lisa MacKay, via email at swimpei@sportpei.pe.ca. Introduction to Officiating Course (Red Pin)

Katherine McQuaid will he hosting an Introduction to Officiating Course (Timer’s Clinic) & Safety Marshall Clinic on Tuesday, November 19th at the Royalty Centre from 7-9pm. Room 140 (Red Pin)

Provincial High Performance Coach

Former Olympic Team Head Coach to join Swim PEI as Provincial High Performance Coach
Thanks to the support from the 2009 Canada Games Legacy Fund, Swim PEI is pleased to announce that Pierre Lafontaine will assume the position of Provincial High Performance Coach effective January 1, 2019.
Lafontaine’s career in sport spans over three decades and multiple countries including Australia, USA and Canada and includes working with swimmers, cyclists, and cross-country skiers. He was the CEO and Head Coach of Swimming Canada for over eight years having coached the National Team at the 2008 and 2012 Olympics as well as at numerous World Championships, Commonwealth Games, and Pan-Am Games. He was most recently the CEO of Cross County Canada and Cycling Canada.
Mr. Lafontaine will provide leadership and oversight to all provincial technical programs of Swim PEI, including the development and implementation of the Performance Plan for the organization.  Through Mr. Lafontaine’s leadership and collaboration with island coaches he will be tasked with supporting clubs to elevate the performances of swimmers in PEI and create opportunities to remain in the province and train to their highest potential. Pierre will immediately be engaging with the organization to create a performance strategy and identify key initiatives in support of high performance swimming in Prince Edward Island. Over the next two years he will work directly with athletes and coaches to help train swimmers to achieve best ever results at National level meets.

Officials Education Site Launch

March 24, 2018

As stated in the February 2018 Officials Bulletin, Swimming Canada is excited to officially launch their education site: https://edu.swimming.ca/. This site is where all the e-learning modules will be housed. At this time, there are two officials courses available for officials to complete; Intro to Officiating (Timekeeper) eModule & Safety Marshal eModule. As the site progresses, more officiating eModules will be added, and eventually coaching eModules as well.
As Swimming Canada continues to develop the e-learning site, they appreciate any and all feedback to help improve the site’s functions. Please send all questions, suggestions and feedback through the contact us page.
